Community Prevention

The National Drug Abuse Prevention Unit seeks to empower communities to deal with drug problems by:

  • Training of community leaders
  • Encourage youth advocacy on anti-drug issues
  • Continued involvement of out-of-school youth in anti-drug activities
  • Facilitating groups in implementing community based programmes
  • Implementing alternative programmes to drug activities – drama, sports, education, economic
  • Conducting training workshops and camps
  • Building networks among anti-drug and other community based groups
  • Promoting public awareness campaigns
  • Conducting prison drug education program
  • Conducting program targeting specialized populations including youth at-risk, prison, indigenous populations and women (to include pregnant women)
